Passo Gavia
If you cross the town of Ponte di Legno and follow the signs towards Pezzo, you’ll reach the Passo Gavia. Things get interesting right at the uphill beginning, intertwining between fields and opening up onto a wide road up to the residential town of S. Apollonia, at the Stelvio National Park. After a few kilometers the road narrows and the considerable steep slopes begin: 16% and the 14% grade which suddenly flatten at 5%, immersing you in the panoramic view over the Valle delle Messi. You will proceed on exposed straight paths, where the vegetation thins out given the height (above 2000 m), the incline continues (9%) and you’ll reach the dark yet brief tunnel with an incline of up to 12%, which leads you to the last challenging segment of the climb in order to reach the desired spot. The road overlooks the Lago Nero and continues with high inclines up to the Passo Gavia.
